319 affordable gas-free affordable homes coming to former Boots site in Nottingham

One of the Midlands largest housing associations in partnership with one of the UK’s top house builders is set to deliver more than 300 energy efficient affordable homes in the Midlands.

Platform Housing Group and Keepmoat Homes have joined forces to deliver the 319 homes as part of a bigger development on the former Boots site in Nottingham.

Once completed, the homes at Trentside – which will be managed by the social landlord – will be all electric, with air source heat pumps and innovative solar electricity tech panels to generate energy, saving residents substantial monthly costs on running their homes.

The site is part of a larger development, Beeston Canalside, which will be made up of more than 600 homes in total.

With work now underway – with an anticipated completion date of 2029 for the entire regeneration project – this is Platform’s largest ever development, contributing to an impressive 1500 homes they will start work on this year.  It represents a huge achievement for the Midland’s based landlord as it continues to build homes across the region.

Thirty of Platform’s homes are being delivered for Nottingham City Council with 93 allocated for affordable rent and 226 for shared ownership.

Elizabeth Froude, Chief Executive Officer at Platform Housing Group said:

“We are absolutely passionate about this landmark development on a very special site that will bring high quality new homes and significant investment to the city of Nottingham and I would like to thank all those who have got us to this stage; it demonstrates partnership working at its very best.

“For our future customers it really will be all about place, creating a fantastic community, as well as offering them the very best in energy reducing initiatives.  We’re proud to stand alongside our partners and remain committed to delivering new homes for the people of Nottingham and the surrounding area.”

Mark Lowe, Head of Housing and Regeneration at Nottingham City Council said:

“Nottingham City Council’s vision is that homes in the city meet the aspirations and needs of both current and future residents.

“We want people to be able to live in safe, warm homes that they can afford, in vibrant local neighbourhoods where everyone can thrive.  I’m delighted to see this development coming forward, delivered by a dynamic partnership on a cross boundary site to create much needed new housing, including new affordable homes, for Nottingham people.”

Charlotte Goode, Divisional Chair at Keepmoat said: “It is a privilege to work alongside Platform Housing Group on this landmark development in Nottingham.  The entire team here at Keepmoat is excited to deliver such a large number of energy efficient homes to meet housing targets for local residents.

“Our partnership approach champions our work motivated by social value, sustainability, design and quality, and we’re proud to work alongside Platform Housing Group to regenerate this former industrial site into a wonderful community.”

The development comprises part of the 286 acre Nottingham Enterprise Zone – which aims to be the UK’s centre for innovation in life sciences, medical research, health, beauty and wellness – and Walgreen Boots Alliance campus, which formed part of the health and pharmacy chains operational headquarters where it developed and manufactured ibuprofen painkillers during the 1960s.

The development is a true Nottingham born success story, linking a historical industrial site from Nottingham’s largest employer with the local offices of one of the country’s most successful housebuilders and one of the Midlands largest housing associations.  The legal teams were exclusively drawn from Nottingham based law firms, Geldards LLP, acting for Boots; Freeths LLP, acting for Keepmoat and Browne Jacobson LLP, acting for Platform.  Boots were represented by well known Nottingham agent Tim Garratt from Black Star Advisory.

Boots has occupied the site for almost 100 years and the development supports its’ desire for a positive legacy for the former industrial site, and Keepmoat and Platform’s ongoing commitments to sustainability with a further aspiration for a number of homes to benefit from ‘zero bills.’
