Tenants on Ashfield’s housing register are set to settle into new homes on Ashfield District Council’s largest development to date.
Work has now been completed on 40 new homes on Hardwick Lane, in Sutton.
The development includes 30 houses, two bungalows and eight flats, with two homes having a fourth bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor for families where someone is a wheelchair user.
The homes are built to the highest standards, with a clear focus on sustainability, the environment and being cheaper to run. Each property includes solar panels that will supply approximately 30% of electricity use, electric vehicle charging points, top-grade insulation in the walls and floors and innovative features such as bee bricks and bat roost points to support biodiversity.
Cllr Andy Meakin, the council’s Executive Lead for Social Housing and Assets, said: “It is incredible to see these houses now complete and residents moving in. These homes are for Ashfield people on the housing register and, as a council, we are committed to building safe and sustainable homes across the district.
“These modern and affordable homes have been built to the highest possible standard and are a real asset to Ashfield. It has been great to see the process from when work first started to now seeing people making them their own.”

It comes as Ashfield District Council has full planning permission to build 20 new homes on the site of the former Kirklands Residential Care Home, in Kirkby.
Kirkland Gardens will house 100% affordable properties, which will be a mixture of two- and three-bedroom homes, two-bedroom bungalows and one- and two-bedroom flats. The council is also in the process of applying for planning permission to build 70 new homes on a site off Southwell Lane, Kirkby.
The new homes are part of the council’s pledge in 2023 to build more than 200 new homes within four years. This was on top of the 100 built since 2018.
