Two men have been locked up after neighbourhood officers seized thousands of pounds worth of cannabis from two industrial units.
More than 500 plants and growing equipment were discovered after police executed a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant at two premises in St Bartholomews Court, St Ann’s.
Two men found inside the units were arrested at the scene by officers from the St Ann’s Neighbourhood Policing Team.
One of the units contained 362 plants, found growing in six areas of the premises, with 160 more plants located and seized from the second building.
The proactive raids were carried out on 7 March 2023.
Admir Jahelezi, aged 45, of Carlton Road, Walthamstow, London, and Elis Sadikaj, aged 23, of no fixed abode, were subsequently charged and went on to plead guilty to being involved in the production of a Class B drug.
They were each jailed for two years and three months when they appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (10 August 2023).
Inspector Steve Dalby, the neighbourhood inspector for City South, said: “The neighbourhood team acted on intelligence to carry out these successful raids.
“Positive enforcement activity of this nature shows how we are listening to concerns raised by our local communities and taking robust action to crack down on the illegal drug trade which causes so much misery to people’s lives.
“We will continue to act on feedback and intelligence we receive from members of the community, and I want to encourage people to continue providing us with information about potential criminal activity in their areas so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
“We know the cultivation of cannabis can often be linked to wider criminality including the exploitation of vulnerable adults and children.
“We are determined to do all we can to disrupt this type of activity and continue to tackle the issues that our communities have told us matter most to them.”
