West Bridgford Lidl development gets the go-ahead – includes Starbucks drive-thru, three shops and a gym

The plans will bring a Lidl store, gym and retail units.

The development includes a 1,950 sq m Lidl store, Starbucks coffee shop with a drive-thru, a 929 sq m gym, three small shops, for regional and local traders, and a 180-space car park with 13 disabled and parent and child spaces.

Frank Gillespie, Development Director at Wilford Lane Developments, said:

“We’re very pleased with the Council’s decision to approve our proposals for the Wilford Lane site in West Bridgford.

“This development will bring investment, employment opportunities – overall, the site will create approximately 80 new jobs – and improved retail choice to the local area, all while breathing new life into a key local site that has been left disused for a number of years.”

The site – a derelict piece of land on Wilford Lane between the Becket School and the Roko Health Club – has been left abandoned for almost a decade following Sainsbury’s decision not to build an 80,000 sq ft store there.

Original plans included a new pub, but those plans were rejected by the planning committee, the pub was removed and the plans re-submitted. These are the new plans and have been passed.

Dominic Bryan, Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, said:

“We’re really excited to be bringing a new, modern Lidl store to West Bridgford as part of Simons Developments’ proposals for the site on Wilford Lane. Our store will create around 40 new full and part-time jobs for local people and enhance shopping choice in the town, especially for those living close by.

“The store will include our full range of award-winning, low-cost, high-quality products, as well as an in-store bakery.”
