E-Scooters: One million rides in first year of Nottingham city trial

Users of Wind Mobility’s e-scooter sharing service in Nottingham have taken a total of one million rides since the launch of operations in October 2020.

The one millionth ride coincides almost exactly with the one year anniversary of the e-scooter trial.

Wind Mobility has been operating the Nottingham trial and 750 e-scooters are currently available for hire.

Wind e-scooters are used for an average distance of 1-2 miles per ride for a riding time of 10-15 minutes.

Lukasz Rybak, City Operations Manager in Nottingham: “We are excited to see that our e-scooters have been used over one million times since the launch of the trial.

“The number reflects the high demand for a first and last mile transport solution that complements existing modes of transport in the city.

“Many residents use our service for their daily commute and the very affordable per-minute rate for our scooters is one of the main contributors to the popularity of the scheme.

“With the recently granted extension of the trial until November 2022, we will continue to provide our service to residents and visitors of the city as an affordable transport alternative.”

Wind Mobility offers a monthly subscription service to key workers and a 12p per minute hire scheme that is available to anyone who is 16 years or older and holds any valid driving license.

To further improve parking accuracy and encourage responsible e-scooter use, Wind is currently testing a fine that will apply should scooters be parked incorrectly.

Wind has also deployed full-time street patrollers in the city to roam hotspot areas. Recently, Wind organised the first safety event to further educate users on safe riding practices and continuously educates users on safe and responsible e-scooter use through the Wind app and its social media channels in cooperation with Nottingham City Council and the local universities.
