Updates: M1 closed southbound J23 – single vehicle collision

The M1 southbound is currently closed between Junctions 23 (Loughborough) and 22 (Leicester) due to a single vehicle collision caused by icy road conditions.

The scene is clear and the road has re-opened on the M1 southbound between J23 Loughborough and J22 Leicester following an earlier collision.


Service Providers including a Gritter is en route to the scene to ensure the road is safe before plans to re-open.

Diversion Route

Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Circle diversion symbol on road signs

  • Exit the M1 southbound at Junction 23 and take the third exit from the Interchange onto the A512
    west.
  • Continue along the A512 westbound to the A512/B591 Ashby Road East/Ingleberry Road
    Junction.
  • At the junction turn left (south) onto the B591 Ingleberry Road and continue southbound
    along the B591 to the T Junction with A591 Nanpantan Road/Copt Oak Road.
  • At the junction turn right (south) and continue along the B591 passing through Charley Road Crossroads and Copt
    Oak Crossroads (Whitwick Road junction) to the Copt Oak Road Roundabout.
  • At the roundabout take the first exit left (east) onto the A511 Little Shaw Lane.
  • Continue eastbound along the A511 to the M1 Junction 22 Interchange.
  • Take the third exit to re-join the M1 southbound at J22.
