26 gas canisters seized from a Nottinghamshire park

Officers seized multiple nitrous oxide gas canisters in a park after complaints were raised by local residents.

26 cannisters were found hidden in a bush in Portand Park, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, on Tuesday 11 August.

Officers conducted a search of the area after hearing multiple complaints about antisocial behaviour at a regular beat surgery.

Sergeant George Twiddy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Several members of the public had complained about local youths gathering late at night and behaving in an antisocial way after inhaling gas on Portland Park in Kirkby in Ashfield.

“This is completely unacceptable and anyone found abusing these substances in this way will be dealt with appropriately.

“On this occasion we responded immediately to residents’ concerns and removed multiple canisters from circulation before they could be used.

“We will be sure to keep our eyes out for similar activity in this area in the future and encourage other members of the public to contact us with any concerns they may have.”
