A 22-year-old man has been jailed for four years after knocking a man unconscious and causing serious facial injuries during an assault in Newark town centre.
Silas Briggs-Price, of Coronation Street, Balderton, admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault. He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday 23 February.
The court heard that the incident took place in the early hours of 27 June last year, shortly after Briggs-Price and a couple left a pub on Barnby Gate at closing time.
A confrontation developed outside the venue. As the couple attempted to walk away, Briggs-Price followed them and continued the altercation. He then punched the man in the face, knocking him unconscious.
While the man was on the ground, Briggs-Price kicked him in the head. The victim sustained several facial fractures as a result of the attack.
Briggs-Price also assaulted the woman before leaving the scene.
Police officers located him walking through the town centre a short time later and arrested him. He initially denied involvement but later pleaded guilty after reviewing CCTV evidence gathered by officers.
Detective Constable Robert McGhee, of Nottinghamshire Police, said the victim had suffered serious injuries as a result of the assault and that officers had been able to build a strong case using available footage.
Briggs-Price was remanded in custody and has now begun his four-year prison sentence.
