Nottingham City Transport (NCT) is celebrating a major milestone, with its electric bus fleet surpassing 5 million kilometres travelled.
The achievement comes two years after NCT’s first electric buses entered service in April 2024.
Since their introduction, the fleet has become a familiar sight on routes across Nottingham, helping to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and provide customers with quieter and smoother journeys.
NCT completed the rollout of its fully electric city single deck fleet in December 2025, with all 62 buses now in service. The final stage saw Grey Lines 53 and 54 converted, serving Arnold, City Hospital, Ring Road, QMC and Clifton.
The project was delivered in partnership with Nottingham City Council, with £12.3 million secured through the Department for Transport’s Zero Emissions Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme, alongside £17.7 million invested by NCT.
Looking ahead, NCT is now moving into the next stage of electrification. A total of 19 electric double deck buses are on order, supported by funding from the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA). This includes 13 Yutong and 6 Wrightbus vehicles, due to enter service in late 2026.
NCT’s electric buses continue to support Nottingham’s ambition to become a carbon-neutral city, while offering customers a modern, comfortable and sustainable way to travel.
