Country park fight leaves teenager in hospital with stab injuries

Police have arrested a suspect after a teenager suffered serious injuries during a fight.

Officers were called to Newstead and Annesley Country Park, Newstead, around 5pm on Tuesday (26 May) following reports of an altercation involving groups of people.

A 16-year-old boy was located with stab wounds and was given immediate first aid by officers.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains.

A second victim was also located and found to have suffered minor injuries.

Officers worked quickly to identify a suspect and tracked him down to an address in Broxtowe a short time later.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Ian Smith, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“A teenager has suffered serious injuries following this incident and it will undoubtedly cause concern in the community.

“I hope people welcome our response and the rapid arrest which has been made.

“The officers who attended should be commended for providing vital first aid and then working efficiently to identify and locate a suspect.

“Our investigation is ongoing and the public can still assist us to understand exactly what happened.

“On a summer evening we expect the country park to have been busy, so we’d like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything in the moments before, during and after the incident.

“It is also important anyone with relevant dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage gets in touch without delay.

“Officers will remain in the area today to carry out further inquiries, speak to local people and offer reassurance.”
