A large fire at a scrapyard in Basford was caused by a lithium-ion battery, fire investigators have confirmed.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire on Radford Road has now been dealt with, crews have left the scene and all roads in the area have reopened.
The incident began at 10.31am on Wednesday 8 July, when firefighters were called to a scrapyard fire on Radford Road, Basford.
Six fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene after reports of a large smoke plume. Nottinghamshire Police also attended and evacuated a number of properties in the area while the fire was being tackled.
Road closures were put in place around Radford Road, including between Northgate and Eland Street, while emergency services dealt with the incident. Residents nearby were advised to keep windows and doors closed because of smoke in the area.
Firefighters remained at the scene into Wednesday evening, with two fire engines and an aerial ladder platform still in attendance at 5pm as crews continued work to fully extinguish the fire.
Crews worked throughout the night before the site was handed over for a joint fire and police investigation on Thursday.
Following that investigation, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery.
In an update, the service said: “We can now confirm that the fire on Radford Road, Basford, has been dealt with. Our crews have left the scene and all roads in the area have reopened.
“We would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while we responded to the incident.
