Work on new EV chargers at West Bridgford car park starts on Monday

Work to install new electric vehicle charging points at Nursery Car Park in West Bridgford will begin on Monday 20 July.

Rushcliffe Borough Council said the chargers are being introduced at the town centre car park, next to M&S Food, to help meet growing demand for electric vehicle charging across the borough.

The scheme will provide medium to rapid charging facilities for visitors to West Bridgford town centre, with the new charging points expected to become available later this summer.

Nursery Car Park will remain open during the installation, although sections of the site will be temporarily closed while contractors carry out the work.

The project is expected to take around two weeks, with measures in place to limit disruption. A traffic control officer will be present throughout the installation.

New charging points are also planned for the council’s Bridgford Road Car Park as part of the same scheme.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environment and Safety, Cllr Rob Inglis, said: “We’re pleased to introduce further EV charging points at our car parks, helping to accommodate motorists as the demand for electric vehicles rises.

“This builds on further sites where we’ve introduced EV charging points in recent years, including Rushcliffe Country Park, Rushcliffe Arena, Gamston Community Hall, Gresham Sports Park and Bunny Lane and Church Drive in Keyworth.

“This is an integral part of our Carbon Clever journey to become net zero in our own operations by 2030, by making our council-owned car parks greener to support wider carbon reduction action across the borough. It also aligns with the Government’s target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

“Thank you for your patience while these works take place at Bridgford Road and Nursery Road car parks. We are working with contractors to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum.”

The council said the installations form part of its wider work to support lower-carbon transport across Rushcliffe.
