The main issues today are planned works, including the continuing A52 Wheatcroft restrictions, daytime closures on Bramcote Lane, and another night of major resurfacing works on A60 Mansfield Road.
Roads and motorways
No major new incident causing widespread disruption has been identified on Nottinghamshire’s principal strategic roads in the early check.
Drivers should nevertheless expect the normal build-up on the A52, A453, A610 and approaches to Nottingham as the morning peak develops.
The major long-term works at A52 Wheatcroft remain one of the principal potential pressure points south of Nottingham.
National Highways is carrying out preparations for reconstruction of Wheatcroft and Nottingham Knight junctions. Utility companies began diversions at Wheatcroft on 7 September, with lane closures and a temporary 40mph limit introduced on this section of the A52.
The overall Wheatcroft and Nottingham Knight programme is expected to continue until spring 2029.
National Highways – A52 Nottingham junctions
Rail – planned strikes suspended
The significant development for rail passengers this morning concerns East Midlands Railway.
RMT industrial action which had been scheduled to affect EMR Intercity and Connect services on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 September has been suspended.
National Rail says services are now expected to run as scheduled on both days.
EMR reduced timetable still in force
The suspension of the strikes does not, however, mean EMR has returned to its complete Intercity timetable.
The operator’s temporary reduced Intercity timetable remains in place until further notice because of issues with train performance and reliability.
Since 1 September, EMR has been operating around 92% of its full planned Intercity timetable, up from 87%. RMT action short of a strike also remains in place, so trains can still be subject to short-notice changes or cancellations.
Passengers should therefore continue checking individual journeys before travelling.
Trams

Buses – Mansfield Road overnight works
The first night of the major A60 Mansfield Road resurfacing programme has now finished, with the road scheduled to have reopened at 06:00 this morning.
Another closure takes place from 20:00 tonight until 06:00 Wednesday.
The inbound A60 between Goose Fair Island and Forest Road East is being resurfaced each weeknight until Thursday 24 September.
A large number of Nottingham City Transport services towards Nottingham are affected, including 15, 16, 17, 56, 58, 59, 68, 69, 69A, 70, 70B, 71, 71B, 87, 88, 89 and 89A.
During the overnight closure, inbound buses divert from Goose Fair Island via Gregory Boulevard, Alfreton Road and Canning Circus before reaching their normal city-centre termini.
Stops including Forest Recreation Ground, Forest Road, Huntingdon Street, Woodborough Road and Victoria Centre J1 are not served by inbound buses during the closure.
Highbury Vale – overnight disruption tonight
There is another overnight bus diversion in the Highbury Vale area tonight.
Yellow 68 and 69 are diverting between Highbury Hospital and Bulwell Bus Station because of roadworks on Highbury Vale.
The diversion operates between 20:00 and 06:00 tonight and again Wednesday night, with buses using Piccadilly, St Alban’s Road, Carey Road and Main Street in both directions.
Bramcote Lane
The weekday closure of Bramcote Lane continues today.
Between 09:30 and 17:00, NCT 18A and Pink 30 divert via Wollaton Vale and Trowell Road.
The current programme is scheduled to continue through Thursday 17 September.
A52 Derby Road – University/QMC
The restriction introduced yesterday on the A52 Derby Road between the University of Nottingham and QMC also remains relevant.
An eastbound lane is closed on the approach towards QMC while National Highways installs new pedestrian guardrail, with the works scheduled to continue through Thursday 17 September.
Drivers should allow additional time on the A52 approaching QMC, particularly once the morning peak builds.
Maid Marian Way – Broad Marsh
Traffic management remains in place around Maid Marian Way for demolition work associated with Broad Marsh.
Lane restrictions and temporary traffic lights remain around the Castle Gate, Canal Street, Wilford Street and Castle Boulevard area.
The arrangements are expected to remain in place until the end of November, with delays possible during busy periods.
East Bridgford and Lowdham
Major construction continues on the A614/A6097 improvement programme.
At East Bridgford, Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road remain closed for reconstruction of the Kirk Hill junction, with associated bus diversions.
Construction also continues at Lowdham Roundabout.
