As part of police efforts to locate the remains of Teresa Shephard, who was murdered in 1995, officers have been excavating a site off of Piper Lane, in Aston, Rotherham.
Police say that following five days of excavating, no body or remains have been found
Teresa was 26 years-old when she disappeared in June 1995.
An investigation was launched which resulted in detectives arresting and charging Peter Turner with Teresa’s murder
In 1996, Turner, formerly of Doncaster Road, Worksop, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Despite this conviction, Teresa’s body was never recovered – with Turner still to this day never providing authorities any information on where she may have been buried.
A review by the Major Incident Review Team (MIRT) explored several lines of enquiry to identify the site as a potential place Teresa may have been buried.
Dave Stopford, head of the MIRT, said:
“Teresa’s family have been made aware of this update and our thoughts are with them as they continue to live with the indescribable pain of not knowing where Teresa’s remains are.
They continue to ask for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”
