The operators of a Bulwell pub are serving their final weekend after almost four years at the venue.
The team behind The Abbey, in Bulwell, announced last year that they had served notice on pub company Punch and would be handing the business back.
Their final weekend at the pub comes to an end on Sunday 4 October.
In announcing their departure, the operators said The Abbey had been struggling and facing the possibility of permanent closure when they arrived almost four years ago.
They said that, with the support of customers, they had since helped turn it into a family-friendly and community-focused pub.
The decision to leave has been taken so they can concentrate on their own family plans.
They also said the Chancellor’s Budget had made the decision “just a little bit easier”, although stressed that the move was entirely their own decision.
In a statement, they said: “It’s been an incredible almost 4 years. When we first arrived, The Abbey was a struggling pub on the verge of permanent closure — and together with all of you, we’ve helped turn it into the family-friendly, community-driven local it is today.
“That’s something we’re genuinely proud of.
“We didn’t expect this day to come any time soon, but right now feels like the right moment for both of us to focus on our own family goals.”
They added: “We want to be absolutely clear: this is entirely our decision, made for the right reasons. And we’d like to place on record our genuine appreciation to Punch for their support throughout our time here.”
The operators also thanked customers who had supported the pub, including those visiting for food and drinks and members of its pool teams.
The departure relates to the current operators handing The Abbey back to Punch, rather than an announcement that the pub itself will permanently close.
