Drivers are reminded that a stretch of the A52 in Nottingham will be closed this weekend to carry out resurfacing work as part of a major improvements scheme.
People travelling into the area, including those attending events at the University of Nottingham this weekend, are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to seek alternative routes if possible.
The major works are taking place along the A52 Derby Road between the Priory and QMC roundabouts.
The route will be closed from 8pm on Friday (27 March) until 6am on Monday (30 March). Closing the road for a weekend avoids the need for six weeks of overnight closures.
Once completed, the new cycleway and footpath is expected to be able to open in mid-April, ensuring safer travel for pedestrians and cyclists, with the A52 set to be running again in both directions in the daytime by early May. Final works are set to be completed in June.
The scheme has included resurfacing the carriageway, which is coming to the end of its working life, making journeys safer and smoother for drivers.
Part of the ageing drainage system is being rebuilt to help tackle issues with flooding, additional signage is being introduced to better enable access from local roads and to make directions clearer for all drivers using this stretch of road.
There is a new combined cycleway and pedestrian footpath as well as upgrades to street lighting, bus stops and pedestrian lighting-controlled crossings as part of the scheme.
