Animals hit by train affecting Newark rail service

East Midlands Railway says animals on the track near Uttoxeter have been struck by a train.

East Midlands Railway said at 10:59 am Monday 23 December:

‘There are animals on the railway which have unfortunately been struck by a train between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter disrupting our trains on the Newark/Derby/Crewe route.

‘The train involved has sustained some damage and requires recovery by another train.

‘This is in the process of being organised.’

‘Trains running through the area in both directions cannot run between Derby and Crewe.

‘We are still working on how this will affect the rest of the route.

‘At present we are expecting the line to be reopened in the next two hours. As soon as the problem is fixed our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 12:30.’
