Armed police arrest teenagers after robberies in M&S car park and Central Avenue in West Bridgford

West Bridgford: Armed officers detained a pair of suspects within minutes of two robbery reports coming in.

Three victims were targeted a few minutes apart during the separate incidents in West Bridgford.

Police were called after a man was forced to hand over a bike he’d been riding in the early hours of Saturday (17 January).

The victim was reportedly approached and threatened – around 1.35am – by a group of people who were dressed all in black.

That incident in Albert Road Car Park was then followed soon after by reports of a separate robbery in West Bridgford’s Central Avenue.

Two men were again approached and threatened by a group, who proceeded to steal a coat from one of the victims and a vape from the other.

Both men were also left with facial injuries after being assaulted during the incident, which police believe to be linked to the robbery in Albert Road.

Firearms officers arrived there by 1.50am – at which point they conducted an area search and quickly spotted two people in a nearby alleyway.

Believing they matched the descriptions of those involved in the incidents, police stopped the duo – discovering quantities of cannabis in the process.

Two 16-year-old boys were subsequently arrested on suspicion of robbery and possessing Class B drugs.

Inspector Chris Chell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“We hope the speed which our officers responded to these incidents and made arrests will provide the public with some reassurance.

“Robbery is a horrible crime that can have a real and lasting impact on people’s lives – from both a physical and an emotional standpoint.

“That’s why we will always respond as robustly to reports of this nature as our officers did in this case. It’s important people realise this type of behaviour will never be tolerated.

“While we made two arrests, inquiries are still very much ongoing into these incidents, so we’d ask anyone who saw what happened to please share this information with us.”

Information can be reported directly to the police on 101, quoting incident 38 of 17 January 2026, while Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
