Arrest after driver in stolen car rams police vehicles in Nottingham

A driver who rammed into police vehicles after they had boxed in a suspected stolen car in the city centre yesterday (Monday 27 April 2020) was swiftly arrested along with two passengers.

Officers were alerted to car believed to have been stolen during a burglary in London and which was displaying false plates.

After the car was spotted on Maid Marian Way, shortly after 2 pm, the officers followed it before blocking it in on St Nicholas Street.

The driver then allegedly attempted to break free by ramming into the police vehicles, causing significant damage.

The officers got out of their vehicles, smashed the driver’s side window and deployed Taser on one of the three occupants before they were all arrested.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, was detained on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and criminal damage to a police vehicle.

The two other male occupants, both aged 20, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

One of the police officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.

The three suspects were subsequently released under investigation.
