A teenager has been arrested after injuring himself and a shop worker when a knife was produced inside a supermarket.
Police were called to B&M, on Front Street, Arnold, at 7.30 pm on Friday (26 June) following reports that the weapon had been brandished.
A teenage boy had initially entered the store and attempted to steal two bottles of vodka.
When confronted by shop staff and members of the public, an altercation took place, and the weapon was produced.
One member of staff suffered an injury to his hand, and the teenager also cut his own wrist.
After attending the scene, officers arrested a suspect a short time later, and detectives are continuing to investigate.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife in a public place, and shop theft.
Detective Constable Jessie Knott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“We take any report of a knife being brandished in public very seriously, and a suspect was quickly detained following this incident.
“We have said repeatedly that the decision to carry a knife puts you at greater risk of coming to harm.
“It also means that anyone you come into contact with is more likely to suffer injury.
“Thankfully, the shop worker was not seriously hurt during the incident, and we hope staff and members of the public welcome this arrest.”
