An arrest has been made following reports that a man on crutches was walking up and down a street trying car door handles.
Police were called to Furlong Street, Arnold, at around 4am on Friday (14 August) and located a suspect in the area. During searches, officers found a screwdriver and a knife.
A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Inspector Steven King, local area commander for Gedling, said:
“We know vehicle crime is a concern for people across Gedling, and recent months have seen localised increases in incidents of this nature.
“Neighbourhood teams have been working hard to educate residents on ways of avoiding becoming a victim of vehicle crime while investigations take place.
“We suspect a small number of offenders are behind these incidents, so this arrest is an important update to share with the community.
“We’d urge people to continue taking measures to avoid having their car stolen or having items stolen from within it.
“By following a few simple steps, members of the public can make their own vehicles as safe as possible.”
