The family of a man whose body was recovered from a river after he went missing have paid tribute to him following the conclusion of his inquest.
Officers searched for 36-year-old Jamie Poole after he was reported missing from the Newark area on 28 October 2025.
Sadly, a body was found in the River Trent near Newark on the morning of Sunday 9 November 2025.
Jamie’s partner, Brydie Cove, described him as ‘a funny, kind, caring, extremely hard-working, loving partner, dad, brother and friend to many.’
She said: “He was the type of person who would do anything for anyone, often putting others before himself and had a way of making people laugh in any situation.
“Jamie had been a dad for eight months before he passed away and took to parenthood so naturally and loved his son more than anything.
“He was excited for the future and was continually making plans with his family and friends and it’s still hard to understand that those future plans won’t be happening.
“He loved his sports (watching more than the actual physical exercise!). Also, for those who knew Jamie would have known his incredible passion and knowledge for anything Formula 1-related.
“They say time is a healer but I disagree. Time makes things harder when it comes to grief. You have more questions and after the initial shock things become harder and harder to understand.
“As a family, we still can’t accept we will never see Jamie again, hear his voice and his laugh. It’s sad that we never got the opportunity to properly say goodbye to Jamie one last time.”
She added: “That day from when Jamie went missing and to when he was found were the hardest 12 days we have ever had to endure and I cannot explain the trauma of missing a loved one.
“Thankfully, Jamie was found and we could celebrate his life as he would have wanted.
“Despite all the grief and trauma, I cannot thank the generosity of the community of Newark who gave up their time and effort to help look for Jamie, share the appeals and had genuine concern.
“Also, thank you to all the official search teams involved in looking for Jamie who didn’t stop from morning until night and a special thank you to Beneath The Surface who travelled all the way to Newark for the weekend and were able to locate Jamie and provide us that closure we desperately needed.
“We miss Jamie every single day and will continue to for the rest of our lives.”
The inquest into Jamie’s death was held at Nottingham Coroner’s Court and concluded yesterday (Monday 17 August 2026).
Assistant Coroner for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Karen Boyle recorded a verdict of suicide, adding that Jamie died by drowning.
As a service, Nottinghamshire Police continues to work closely with its partners to help raise awareness about the support available for those who may be struggling with their mental health.
