Arrests after criminal damage at Rushcliffe mobile phone mast site

Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Police responded to a report of criminal damage and attempt theft from a mobile phone mast site near Saxondale.

On Friday 4 July 20 minutes after the initial call officers arrested a man and woman from the West Midlands on suspicion of criminal damage and attempted theft from the site.

Officers subsequently found tools near the scene and have been provided with CCTV footage from the alarm response centre who made the call.

Police said:

‘The two suspects have been bailed pending examination of the site by the owners to assess the extent and value of the damage. The site appears to still be operational but will have to be assessed by engineers.

‘The alarm centre was able to direct officers to the exact location using what3words which coupled with local knowledge led the officers to locate a suspicious van and the two suspects near the scene.

‘The location information, description of events from the alarm centre and the prompt action of the officers no doubt prevented further damage and possible loss of mobile phone coverage in that area.

‘We would appeal to anyone who is out and about in the countryside whether that is walkers, dog walkers, runners, cyclists, horse riders, rural business staff or residents in remote locations to keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour especially around rural businesses and utilities infrastructure. Thefts and damage at these sites has a direct effect on businesses and the rural community.’
