Banned driver jailed after Nottingham police pursuit

A disqualified driver has been jailed following a police chase in Radford.

Adnan Balloul, aged 37, was banned from the roads in March 2022 after a string of motoring offences – including driving without a licence and insurance.

Since then, he has been caught driving whilst disqualified on a further three occasions and he has now been put behind bars.

Magistrates heard his latest arrest took place on Monday 2 June this year.

Response officers were patrolling the Radford area when they spotted Balloul behind the wheel of a silver Vauxhall Zafira as it entered Bentinck Road from Birkin Avenue.

They signalled for him to stop but the banned driver refused to do so and sped away.

A pursuit lasting several minutes saw Balloul, of Cantabury Avenue, Hyson Green, accelerate along Peveril Street, a 20mph residential street with speed bumps.

He showed little regard for other road users as he turned left onto Alfreton Road, passing through give-way markings with minimal breaking.

Police dash cam footage shows him then turn Boden Street, another 20mph residential area, before breaking the speed limit in several other streets.

He finally abandoned the car in Highurst Street where he made off on foot.

Officers arrested him a short time later and put him before the courts.

Balloul went on to plead guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, failing to stop when required by a constable.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday 18 July and was jailed for 52 weeks.

PC Dan Bird, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Balloul clearly has a disregard for the law and the judicial system as a whole.

“He has repeatedly failed to take notice of any disqualifications, orders or bail conditions imposed by the courts and has continued to offend.

“By continuing to drive vehicles on public roads, whilst disqualified and with no insurance, he not only put his own life at risk, but also those of other members of the public and road users.

“He repeatedly gambled on not being caught and time and time again it backfired.

“I’m therefore pleased he has now been handed a custodial sentence and hope it serves as a warning to others who persistently disregard the law.”
