Building work underway at housing development in Colwick

Work is underway on an affordable housing development near Nottingham.

Leading housing provider Longhurst Group, which owns and manages more than 23,000 homes across the Midlands and East of England and has an office in the city, is delivering the 44 affordable properties in Colwick.

The development, on Vale Road, will be made up of one, two and three bedroom properties, with 23 of the homes available for Shared Ownership and the rest as Affordable Rent.

Marcus Keys, Longhurst Group’s Executive Director of Growth and Development, said he was excited to see the development progress.

He said: “In line with our Improving Lives 2025 strategy, we’re committed to providing the homes people want in the places they are needed and so are pleased to be delivering this much needed affordable housing to the area.

“To have a fully affordable site within such close proximity to the city of Nottingham is a wonderful opportunity, helping meet both affordable housing need and offering a route to affordable home ownership.

“I’d also like to thank all of our partners, including Gedling Borough Council, for their support in making this development a reality.

“We’ve had to overcome some issues that you’d expect when developing a brownfield site, but now work is underway, I’m looking forward to seeing the homes complete and handed over during 2021.”

Councillor Jenny Hollingsworth, Portfolio Holder for Growth and Regeneration at Gedling Borough Council, said: “We’re delighted that work has started on this project that will create much needed affordable homes in the borough.

“We’d like to thank Longhurst Group and GEDA Construction for the work they’re doing to deliver these new homes.

“One of Gedling Borough Council’s main priorities is to provide more new homes and to specifically identify opportunities to create affordable homes on brownfield sites such as the one in Colwick.

“We look forward to the site being completed and for those first set of keys to be handed over.”

Colm McVeigh, GEDA Construction’s Commercial Manager, said he is looking forward to working with Longhurst Group on the Colwick project to provide high quality homes to the local community.
