Officers investigating a break-in at a café that resulted in a hole in the ceiling have arrested a suspect.

A staff member at The Avenues Café, Gedling Street in Nottingham arrived at the premises on the morning of 26 November 2025 to find the rear fire door forced open, and a hole in the ceiling of the kitchen.

It is believed the incident occurred between 3pm on 25 November and 6am on 26 November 2025.

Officers have been studying CCTV footage from nearby and carrying out inquiries.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary on Tuesday (27 January).

He was also arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and recalled to prison following a previous incident.

PC Guy Liston, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“It’s suspected that the intruder broke his way into the building by burrowing through the ceiling – which is definitely not something we see every day.

“We are aware that break-ins of this nature can cause real upset to local businesses, and we will always respond robustly to any reports we receive of burglary.

“I’m pleased we’ve now been able to arrest someone in relation to this incident, and I hope it provides reassurance to those affected.”
