Motorists and bus passengers across Nottingham and the wider area face a series of ongoing and upcoming disruptions, with multiple roadworks schemes affecting routes through late spring and into the summer.
The most significant current impact is the full closure of Westleigh Road, where works by Severn Trent are in place from 23 March until 2 May. The closure is affecting key bus services in the area, with routes diverted via Bradfield Road, Strelley Road and Moor Road. Buses are unable to serve stops along Westleigh Road and nearby sections of Frinton Road and Denton Green, although all stops along diversion routes are being observed. Services are continuing to run but with altered routing in both directions, particularly affecting journeys between Strelley, Cinderhill and the city.
Elsewhere, changes remain in place on Alfreton Road, where crossing works have resulted in the closure of the Chadwick Road stop for services heading towards Strelley or Bulwell. Passengers are being directed to use the previous stop at Gregory Boulevard.
At the Queen’s Medical Centre and University area, long-running works on the A52 continue to affect bus movements. The University East Entrance stop is currently not being served by services towards Arnold, as operators aim to avoid delays caused by congestion exiting the Ring Road at Dunkirk. In addition, Derby Road has reverted to one-way traffic between the QMC and Priory roundabouts since January as part of National Highways’ carriageway reconstruction programme, with this arrangement expected to remain until late spring. Several services are diverting via Clifton Boulevard and University Boulevard, and delays are likely as traffic adjusts.
Further disruption is affecting services around City Hospital, where Linden Way remains closed until 31 May. Buses are using alternative access points to enter and exit the hospital campus, with some stops within the site temporarily unavailable.
Short-term works are also set to affect services in multiple locations over the coming days. In Burton Joyce, roadworks between 20 and 22 April mean buses will not serve the village, instead diverting along the A612. In Cotgrave, Hollygate Lane will be closed from 20 to 25 April, requiring buses to divert through the Hollygate Park estate, with passengers advised that boarding points within the estate will be on the opposite side of the road to usual. Delays are expected during this period.
Additional disruption is expected on Nuthall Road, where weekday daytime works between April and July may lead to lane closures and temporary stop suspensions, affecting several services.
Overnight closures of the A52 Derby Road between 20 and 24 April will also impact evening journeys. The road will be shut between the Priory and QMC roundabouts from 8pm to 6am, with buses diverted via University Boulevard and Clifton Boulevard. Some stops along the A52 will not be served during these hours.
Passengers are being advised to allow extra time for journeys and check for the latest service updates before travelling, as further changes may be introduced as works progress.
