Car key burglars jailed after raiding Keyworth and East Leake homes for vehicles

Two car key burglars have been locked up after targeting homes in order to steal vehicles.

Aaron Greenhough and Jayden Gunter travelled by motorbike to raid properties in the Keyworth and East Leake areas during the early hours of 16 and 17 March 2025.

They were able to break into two homes and stole BMW and Volkswagen cars that were parked on driveways.

A few days later, on 19 and 21 March, the pair travelled to Leicester, where further break-ins took place and Audi and Toyota cars, along with other items, were stolen.

Gunter, aged 20, and 21-year-old Greenhough both pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary.

Gunter was sent to a young offender institution for three years at Nottingham Crown Court on 25 June.

On Tuesday (30 June), Greenhough was in the dock at the same court and was jailed for four and a half years.

Typical of the pair’s offending was a break-in at Keyworth in the early hours of 16 March 2025, when a snap lock was used to gain entry to a property before mobile phones, driving licences, and numerous bank cards were taken.

A set of car keys was also taken, and a Volkswagen Tiguan was driven away.

When detectives carried out a trawl of CCTV and doorbell footage, they discovered the Tiguan had been driven in convoy with a motorcycle away from the area.

Gunter was arrested after an iPad stolen in one of the burglaries was traced to an address in Shanwell Close, Nottingham.

A search of the address on 3 April last year led to the recovery of driving licences belonging to two victims.

The following day, officers caught up with Greenhough. He was arrested at an address in Leicester, and stolen car keys were among the items seized.

Detective Constable Martina Tenneriello, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Investigating a series of burglaries like this involves many hours of detective work.

“However, it is all worth it when the perpetrators are brought to justice and some closure is hopefully provided for the victims of these horrible, invasive crimes.

“Neighbourhood teams increased patrols in the wake of Gunter and Greenhough’s series of offending in the Rushcliffe area, and they were identified as suspects.

“We used all the investigative tools available to us, including forensics, visually recorded evidence, and tracking of stolen electronic devices, in order to build a case against them, which has led to these custodial sentences.”
