Community invited to join Edwalton art in the garden event

A festival of art giving the community a chance to join a ‘paintbrush dash’ will be held at a Nottingham care home.

Edwalton Manor Care Home on Landmere Lane will host The Garden Art Show on Thursday, August 22. It will showcase a range of art for sale, including work from local children and charity organisations.

On the day, guests will also get the chance to fill a large canvas as part of a community ‘paintbrush dash’.

Edwalton Manor residents Joan Lovejoy and Ann Fox are both artists and will show their work at the event.

Joan said: “It’s wonderful to be able to show our work, and we hope it will provide a lot of pleasure for our guests.

“The Garden Art Show gives us a very special opportunity to see our work exhibited alongside such a variety of art.”

At the show, guests will also be able to view work created by children at neighbouring Busy Bees Nursery as well as art produced by children from Footprints Conductive Education Centre Charity, which supports local families.

Footprints will be raising money for their work to help transform the lives of children with mobility and communication difficulties across the East Midlands.

Members of The Studio in Beeston will also be exhibiting. The Studio members encourage those living with dementia and carers to be creative.

A group of creative Edwalton Manor residents will also be showing off a large collaborative piece and displaying some of their photography.

Edwalton Manor Wellbeing Coach Alice Kirkby said: “We are very excited about this event, especially the idea of our community creating a memorable piece of work which will represent what a strong community we have here in Nottingham.

“We hope this will become an annual tradition – we just want people to come along, see some lovely art and have some fun creating their own, too!”

Edwalton Manor artist and resident Ann added: “I am very proud of this event. It’s a great way of bringing the community together.”

The Garden Art Show will run from 2.30-3.30pm and will include painting, sculptures as well as live art. Refreshments will be available on the day.
