Tributes and condolences have been expressed following the death of a four-year-old girl after a road collision in Gotham.
Emergency services were called to Nottingham Road at 2.28pm on Sunday 12 July following a collision involving a car.
The girl died a short time later in hospital.
A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was questioned and has since been released on bail while police continue their investigation.
Rushcliffe MP James Naish said he was “so, so sorry” to learn of the fatal collision.
He said: “Thank you to the residents and Cllr Rex Walker who reached out to me and kept me informed after the accident happened, and to the police who I’ve spoken to this morning.
“My sincere condolences are offered to the family and friends impacted by the death of this little girl.
“I cannot imagine what you’re going through, and I share your grief, in a very small way, as I write this with a laboured heart.
“You will constantly be in my thoughts and prayers over the coming days.”
The Star Inn in Gotham described it as a “dark day” for the village.
A statement from the pub said: “Our deepest condolences, love and sympathies are with you at this tragic and devastating time.”
Gotham Parish Council chairman Martin Raven said the council was extremely saddened by the incident.
He said: “Our thoughts are with the family, and also the local community, who will no doubt be shocked by this news.
“I would urge any residents who might have seen anything before or during this incident – or who have a home CCTV camera in the area – to please report any such information to the police.”
Rushcliffe Borough Council also offered its condolences.
A council statement said: “We join Nottinghamshire Police in their sentiments on this deeply tragic incident in one of our communities.
“We send our thoughts to the young girl’s family at such an unimaginably difficult time.”
Sergeant Paul Clark, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a deeply tragic incident and our thoughts are with the young girl’s loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.
“The circumstances are being investigated and we would ask people not to speculate on social media. I would also ask that the privacy of the family is respected as they come to terms with what has happened.
“We’d like to appeal for any witnesses to this incident to please come forward, including anyone with dashcam footage which could help our investigation.”
Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage has been asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police, quoting incident 424 of 12 July.
