A barbers in Kirkby has spoken of the impact of the Tier 4 restrictions for her business. Ewa Tinklin runs ‘Twisted Tinkz’ Modern Barbers, based near Kirkby Precinct on Low Moor Road.
Mrs Tinklin and her staff spent a small fortune making their popular Barber’s Shop COVID secure. She is devastated that yet again her business will have to close. She is desperately worried about the long term viability of her business.
Ewa said, “We always take the safety of customers extremely seriously. That’s why we covered the chairs, workstations and door handles with a material impregnated with silver nitrate that is known for killing viruses within 10 minutes. We also provided facemasks and shields for staff and disposable gowns for customers. To be told to close for the 3rd time in just 9 months feels like a kick in the teeth for our business. We’ve done everything we’ve been told to do and much more. Customers told us how safe they felt – they were very happy to bring their kids and elderly relatives to the shop. In between lockdowns, we’ve been extremely busy as a result. I feel businesses like mine are being made scapegoat for Government failures.”
Ewa and the staff at the shop are being supported by Kirkby Ashfield Independent Councillor Dale Grounds. Dale, a member of Ashfield District Council’s influential COVID-19 Response and Recovery Panel said, “Councillor Daniel Williamson and I have been working to support businesses like Twisted Tinkz Barbers in Kirkby. The work that Ewa and her team did to make their shop COVID-secure has been used as an example to others.
“I was very happy to bring my son Reece for a haircut – safety was important to me. I feel for the staff as it is much more than a barbers. They do a hell of a lot of community work and raise money for charity. I will be working with Ashfield District Council to ensure that this and other businesses continue to get the support they desperately need and deserve. This lockdown is the biggest single threat to the beauty industry ever. We are determined to help them survive… then thrive.”
