A domestic abuser who attacked his former partner and then repeatedly asked her to retract her statement has been sentenced.
The victim, who lives in Hucknall, suffered bruising to her neck and arms after she was assaulted while in a relationship with 45-year-old Jamie Viner.
Viner, who pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on 9 August 2024, later sent messages and voice notes to the victim trying to pressure her into withdrawing her statement given to police so that he wouldn’t get in trouble.
Viner, of Berwick Avenue, Derby, pleaded guilty to a charge of committing an act/series of acts, on 23 October 2025, with intent to pervert the course of justice.
Further charges of intentional strangulation and assault by beating against the same woman were left to remain on file.
Viner received a 20-month prison sentence when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday (20 July).
He was released early on licence, due to time served on remand, however he must follow strict conditions.
Viner was also made subject of a 10-year-restraining order, banning him from contacting the victim.
Police Constable Katie Georgiou, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Viner subjected this woman to a horrific ordeal, so it is to her immense credit she found the bravery to report him to the police and talk to us about what happened to her.Â
“Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for our force, so we hope that fellow survivors will follow this woman’s lead by standing up to domestic abuse and reporting it.Â
“Our plea to anyone going through something similar is to please tell the police. As this case hopefully shows people – we take reports seriously, we will listen, you will be supported, and we will take action.”
