Driver admits causing death of Nottingham student

A driver has admitted causing the death of a 19-year-old student who was knocked down and killed in Nottingham city centre.

William Christmas, 19, died at the scene when he was knocked down in Derby Road in the early hours of 19 March 2020.

Manish Shah, 38, of Barsby Drive, Loughborough, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court today (Friday) and pleaded guilty to two charges – causing death by dangerous driving and dangerous driving.

He was given an interim disqualification from driving and will remain on bail until he is sentenced on 13 May.

Mr Christmas, from Dorset, was on a night out with friends when he was killed.

Detective Constable Sarah Stables, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This tragic incident cost a young student his life and the impact will be felt by his family he has left behind for the rest of their lives.”
