Edwalton care home praised in ‘Good’ CQC inspection report

A care home has been praised by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in a new inspection report.
Edwalton Manor Care Home, on Landmere Lane, was rated as ‘Good’ across all five inspection criteria – namely, is the service safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

The report made special mention of the kindness and compassion of the care team with one relative telling inspectors: “The staff are angelic with my relative and really respect them.”

Another family member commented: “My relative was very poorly when they first moved in and now, they are back up on their feet, they have given them their independence back, I will be eternally grateful to the staff here.”

The report also quoted residents regarding leadership and how staff as well as residents’ meetings were held, and daily feedback was sought.

The report quoted one person who said: “We have residents’ meetings, and we talk about anything there, [name] is very good they come round most days to make sure I am happy with everything.”

One relative said: “There are meetings, my relative goes I don’t need to go because it’s really good, people here have freedom and choice.”

The social activities were also noted as being a positive experience and one relative told inspectors: “My relative enjoys the social side of things, I often go and watch the singers that come in, they also have animals come in, they even had a miniature pony which was just brilliant.”

The unannounced visit took place in August and was the first inspection for the service that was registered with the CQC in June 2022.

As well as visiting the luxury home, the inspection team also spoke on the phone to relatives of people using the care home.

They spoke to 13 staff members, 17 people who used the service and 11 people’s relatives.

Home Manager, Emma Hopper said she was delighted Edwalton Manor had obtained such a positive report from the CQC.

She said: “We’re so pleased to have received this report. Our dedicated staff strive to do everything they can to provide truly personalised and compassionate care for the people who live here at Edwalton Manor.

“Our culture of care and compassion is at the heart of everything we do.

“I am so proud of the team, and I want to thank them for all of their hard work and commitment. This new CQC report is a real group success.”
