Edwalton Cavaliers FC senior player Riley Phillips had a miraculous escape after this Sundays game.
The incident was following a collision on the A42 with a lorry, resulting in his car flipping over after hitting a barrier and ending up crushed on its roof in adjacent woodland.
Riley was able to crawl out of the wrecked vehicle virtually unscathed, he was released from hospital later on Sunday evening.
His kit bag had been thrown from the car as it somersaulted over the embankment and could not be retrieved
Earlier Riley had been part of the team that recorded a big 6-4 first win of the season against previously unbeaten EMPAL Div 2 league leaders Legion FC.
