A skatepark in Keyworth has seen a brand a new extension part-funded by the local parish council and Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) and is now open for residents of all ages and abilities to enjoy.
The partners co-funded the project to the tune of £80,000 of funding towards the new facility which has seen a new concrete extension and refurbishments including new LED light unit, ramp improvements and a new fun box.
The extension is part of RBC’s playing pitch strategy objectives, which has seen nearly half a million pounds invested in skateparks including in East Leake, The Hook in Lady Bay, Radcliffe on Trent, Rushcliffe Country Park and now Keyworth.
It reflects skateboarding’s ever growing profile and inclusion in the Tokyo Olympic games for the first time last year.
Cllr Abby Brennan and Cllr John Cottee joined Parish Council representatives, Betongpark and keen skateboarders to cut the ribbon and officially open the extended park on September 25.
Cllr Brennan is RBC’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change and said: “It’s fantastic to see people of all ages and abilities join together to celebrate the official launch of the new facilities.
“The reactions to the park have been really positive, highlighting our collaborative approach when designing and building the facility.
“We hope the new facility is welcomed by skaters far and wide for years to come, in line with our investments at other skate parks across the Borough.”
Other funding came from partners including FCC Community Foundation, Hoxston Developments, a National Lottery Grant and from a go-fund me page.
Michelle Law, Keyworth Parish Council Clerk said: “It’s heartening to see Keyworth skatepark completed and being enjoyed by all residents.
“There was a fantastic atmosphere at the opening event and we’ve received positive feedback from the community.
“Since the opening of the extension, we’ve seen a higher increase of visitors to the skatepark. It’s a great example of how we work together to give things back to the local community.
“Thank you to Rushcliffe Borough Council and all the organisations who funded the project.”
