In a time when many people feel disconnected from both nature and one another, FarmEco is offering a different way forward.
Based in Screveton, Nottinghamshire, FarmEco is a community farm where people come together to grow fresh, seasonal food, care for the land and build meaningful connections.
With a focus on regenerative growing practices, organic certification and community participation, the project is demonstrating that farming can be about much more than producing food – it can also strengthen wellbeing, biodiversity and a sense of belonging.
“At FarmEco we have seen the power of food and of nature and what it can do for health and wellbeing.” says Wayne Singleton (FarmEco Activities Lead). “We’re putting all of our collective energy into creating community here at the farm and we believe that through that we can solve some of current societies biggest problems. At FarmEco there is plenty of space to find belonging, meaningful time in nature and feel more connected to what matters, which is people, nature and good food”.
FarmEco grows a wide range of fruit in their agroforestry system spanning 40 Acres using methods that work with nature, improving soil health while encouraging wildlife to flourish.
The farm also opens its gates to the wider community through regular FarmEco Saturdays, where people can join in with seasonal activities once a month, and Pick & Picnic Days, inviting families and individuals to harvest fresh produce and enjoy time together in the countryside.
They are launching a Growing Communities 3-year programme which is backed by the National Lottery and opening the farm up on 31 August (Bank holiday monday) for people to experience what the farm has to offer with sample activities such as farm tours, kids’ activities, apple pressing, forest bathing and much more.
No previous experience is needed, and everyone is welcome, whether they want to spend a few hours outdoors, learn about food growing or simply enjoy being part of a friendly community.
As interest in local food, sustainability and community wellbeing continues to grow, FarmEco hopes to inspire more people to reconnect with where their food comes from and experience the benefits of working alongside others in nature.
