A faulty headlight led to the arrest of two suspected drug dealers after they were pulled over in Nottingham.
Response officers were on patrol in Bradfield Road, Broxtowe, around 12.45am on Wednesday (7 January) when they spotted a van with a headlight out and stopped the vehicle to speak with the driver.
A man and a woman were found to be inside the van and it smelt strongly of cannabis.
Officers began searching the two occupants and the vehicle. They found large bags filled with individual deals of cannabis, as well as cannabis cookies and cannabis sweets.
A 40-year-old man and a woman, aged 36, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.
The man was further arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after a drugs wipe was carried out at the roadside.
Further searches will take place at addresses linked to the two suspects.
Inspector David Platt, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This incident provides a great example of the importance of our officers being out on the roads.
“By being out on patrol, response officers were able to spot a van driving at night in wintry weather without one of its headlights on.
“During the stop it became clear there were drugs onboard.
“Officers were able to seize quantities of cannabis which we suspect were going to be sold on the street.
“A number of proactive police teams work hard to stop criminals using the county’s road network to move drugs around and sell them.”
Investigations remain ongoing and anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident 15 of 7 January 2026.
