Fights, vehicle fires and disorder reports across Rushcliffe as police see in the New Year

Officers from Rushcliffe were busy on New Years Eve, joined by the Roads Policing Unit as part of the force-wide operation to ensure public safety and ensure that normal response to immediate and urgent incidents could be maintained.

The evening started with the recovery of a stolen telehandler and the arrest of a suspect near Barton in Fabis.

In a separate incident near Cotgrave a male was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink and drugs he has been bailed while tests are conducted on a blood sample for the driving while impaired offences.

Officers had to attend The A52 at Gamston and Edwalton due to car cruisers reported as driving dangerously, they were followed off our area driving in a highway code compliant manner.

Just after midnight officers kicked off the new year with a car on fire at the side of the road near New Kingston, with scant details officers from across the area attended along with the retained fire crew from East Leake on Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service’s first job of 2026. This incident is still under investigation.

A pair of unregistered motorcycles were reported in suspicious circumstances in Ruddington an area search showed no sign of them.

While in the area at around 01:40 a drunk male was found on the floor in Ruddington and a report of a fight outside a public house where on arrival all parties had left.

Following the events in Ruddington officers assisted by CCTV operators answered a call in relation to a fight in Bingham Marketplace on arrival and checks with CCTV no one was found.

The officers who attended Bingham then moved on to Shelton due to reports of suspicious behaviour around residential areas and the church. The suspicious vehicle had left the area and checks in other villages seemed to indicate they had left the borough.
