Fire at recycling plant deemed accidental, say Fire service

On Monday 31 January 2022, Firefighters were called to a recycling plant on Abbeyfield Road following reports of a fire.

This blaze lasted for seven days.

At the height of the incident, we had 12 fire appliances in attendance, as well as support from three Aerial Ladder Platforms (ALP) and the High-Volume Pumping (HVP) unit.

Following a fire investigation, the cause of this fire has been deemed as accidental.

Area Manager, and incident commander, Bryn Coleman, said: “When crews arrived at the incident, the recycling plant was well alight.

“Firefighters from Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service worked hard to get the blazer under control and to stop it spreading to neighbouring businesses.

“Our Fire Investigation team carried out a full investigation, despite it being delayed due to the level of asbestos in the immediate area.

“Thank you to everyone who worked on and provided support for this incident, including our partner agencies. We’d also like to thank the local community and businesses for their patience with us whilst we worked to make sure the fire was completely out, and that the area was safe.”
