Gardener unearths handgun buried in a Nottingham garden

A suspected firearm has been taken off the streets after the weapon was found in a garden.
Police were called to Welstead Avenue, Aspley, Nottingham, around 1.45pm on Wednesday (2 October) after the handgun was discovered by a gardener.

The firearm had been buried underneath a bush and early indications suggest it had been discarded some time ago.

Detective Sergeant Hannah Frame, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The suspected firearm has been recovered by officers and forensic and other investigations will now take place.

“We’d like to thank the person who found it for making us aware of their discovery.

“This is an ongoing investigation, so we’d ask anyone who has any information that could assist us to call police on 101, quoting incident 335 of 2 October 2024.
“Information can also be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
