Homes England has today announced a Strategic Place Partnership (SPP) with the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), making it the Agency’s 10th SPP with Mayoral Strategic Authorities (MSAs) across England.
Strategic Place Partnerships are a key way Homes England supports locally driven housing and regeneration efforts, by providing a framework for the Agency to work closely with local leaders who know their communities best.
In the East Midlands, Homes England is already working alongside EMCCA to deliver significant regeneration projects in the region, such as Broad Marsh in Nottingham.
The Agency purchased the Broad Marsh site, a former shopping centre site in the heart of Nottingham, in March this year. Work is already underway to de-risk the development with the aim to attract private sector partners eager to take part in the city’s transformation.
The redevelopment of the site in collaboration with EMCCA and Nottingham City Council will see the creation of around 1,000 homes, 20,000 square metres of retail, office and community space, and 2,000 new jobs for the city.
And in Derbyshire, Homes England and EMCCA are working with both public and private sector partners to develop Infinity Garden Village, one of 43 towns and villages across England being developed under the government’s Garden Communities programme. Plans for Infinity include 4,530 new homes, a 1,500-pupil secondary school and 3.45 million square feet of mixed employment space.
Amy Rees CB, Chief Executive of Homes England, said:
“Our 10th Strategic Place Partnership represents a significant milestone in the way we work with Mayoral Strategic Authorities across England. By formalising our partnership with EMCCA, we are creating a powerful framework that will unlock the region’s potential for sustainable growth.
“Projects like Broad Marsh demonstrate what is possible when local knowledge meets national resources, and this SPP will enable us to replicate that success across the East Midlands, delivering the homes and regeneration that the community deserves.”
“This new partnership marks an important moment for the East Midlands. By working hand in hand with Homes England, we are ensuring that our ambition to deliver 100,000 new homes is based on a solid foundation.
“Building these homes is one of the most important ways that our investments will benefit local people. It is how we will deliver inclusive growth, which is at the heart of my mission as Mayor. That means building more homes and creating stronger, more connected communities with the jobs, infrastructure, and regeneration that our local people deserve.
Our partnership with Homes England is a long-term investment in our future. Together, we are building an East Midlands that is vibrant, fair, and forward-looking – a place we can all be proud to call home.”
