Huge increase in deaths with coronavirus as 49 recorded in one week across Nottinghamshire

Health bosses in the county report that 49 people have died with the virus in one week in the county.

The reported period is week to 28 October.

All three trusts are included in the figures – Nottingham University Hospitals, Sherwood Forest NHS Foundation Trust and Bassetlaw and Doncaster NHS Trust.

On a briefing call today, Andrew Haynes, Executive Lead for the Integrated Care System in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire said: “If we look at deaths, during the whole of July and August there were two deaths, whereas in the last seven days there have been 49 deaths.

“This is a critical time to decrease transmission in general and bring down the rate of hospitalisation in three weeks time.

“We need to limit the impact Covid is having on our hospital system. We can do this by following the rules, minimising contact with others, avoiding household mixing and following the basic guidance and restrictions in place.”
