Investigation continues into serious collision in Castle Donington

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding a collision in Castle Donington at the weekend is continuing.

A 24-year-old man was arrested after a pedestrian was left seriously injured shortly before 9.30pm on Sunday (7 September).

On the evening of the incident officers were carrying out routine proactive patrols in the area after concerns about illegal car racing.

They came across a collision in Arundel Avenue involving a black Volkswagen Golf and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital, where he is continuing to receive treatment for what are believed to be life-changing injuries.

The driver who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving has since been released on bail.

Enquiries carried out so far into the circumstances surrounding the incident suggest that those involved in the incident were attending an unauthorised car racing event.

The investigation continues and anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have any information which would be of relevance to the investigation is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 678 of 7 September.
