Knife-carrier wields machete in supermarket car park

A knife carrier who produced a machete during a foot chase with police through a supermarket car park has been jailed.

Knife crime team officers were on patrol in Radford Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham, when they stopped to try and engage with two young men.

As officers approached the pair in a marked police car both ran away down a flight of steps towards the Asda store at 6.50pm on 9 May 2025.

One of them, Jordan Bazuna, aged 20, produced a machete from his trouser leg and discarded a man bag.

In front of a number of shoppers and passers-by, Bazuna looked over his shoulder at one of the pursuing officers and swung the knife backwards towards him.

The officer slowed and no contact was made.

Bazuna continued to run across the supermarket car park before slowing down and dropping the weapon.

The officer detained Bazuna and the knife, which had fallen close to a number of parked cars, was recovered.

Wraps of heroin, cash and cannabis were found when the discarded bag was searched and officers found further evidence of drug dealing when they searched Bazuna’s home.

Detectives investigated the incident and charged Bazuna, of Constance Street, Nottingham, with a number of offences.

He eventually pleaded guilty to possession of a blade in a public place and possession with intent to supply heroin on the day he was due to stand trial at Lincoln Crown Court.

On Tuesday (16 December) he was sentenced to a total of four years in a young offender institution at Nottingham Crown Court.

The other youth, a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also stopped by officers and found to be carrying a knife, which was concealed in his waistband.

Officers recovering the weapon

He admitted possession of a knife in a public place and was handed a youth rehabilitation order during a hearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 18 June 2025.

Sergeant Matt Daley, of the knife crime team, said:

“The incident shows the dangers my team and other officers face while patrolling to keep our streets safe.

“Bazuna and the other youth were both walking along a busy main road carrying knives.

“When they fled and members of the knife crime team pursued them, Bazuna took the reckless decision to brandish the weapon he was carrying.

“Thankfully, the officer was not harmed, and he showed both composure and bravery in detaining Bazuna a few moments later.

“The incident took place on a spring evening outside a busy supermarket and by brandishing a knife and swinging it around, Bazuna showed absolutely no concern for their safety.

“I hope those who were unfortunate enough to witness Bazuna’s behaviour welcome our determination to arrest him and the investigation which followed.”
