The leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, Cllr Kay Cutts MBE comments ahead of tomorrow’s Policy Committee meeting during which plans for new West Bridgford schools will be discussed.
Councillor Kay Cutts MBE, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said:
“Our first priority to the children of West Bridgford to make sure that there are sufficient school places for the coming years and in a modern – fit for purpose environment where children can thrive.
“The existing Lady Bay Primary School is a dilapidated Victorian building where children currently learn in cramped classrooms and temporary buildings.
“This is not the kind of facility our children deserve. The proposed new site would also enable parents to walk with their children to school in a less polluted and busy environment.
“The new school would be a vast improvement – providing green open space that is sorely lacking in their current environment.
“The report to Policy Committee about the planned expansion of West Bridgford Schools moves us a step close to delivering a new secondary and new primary school which are both much needed facilities for local families.
The requirements for significant playing fields would mean that discussions could be held with all site occupiers, including West Bridgford Colts Football clubs, to see how they could be accommodated in the future.
“However, this is a matter for the new schools’ academy trust to progress. I see no reason why football club cannot be accommodated in some way.”
