A large area around Nottingham’s Old Market Square remains cordoned off as police investigate an incident in which an officer sustained a gunshot wound.
Pictures and video from the scene this morning show the extent of the cordon, with crime scene investigation vans in attendance and investigation work getting under way.
St James’s Street is completely cordoned off, while cordons on Angel Row and Beastmarket Hill are preventing buses from accessing those streets.

A firearm has been recovered following the incident in Angel Row at 4.50am today, Sunday 18 October.
Police said the officer had approached two suspects shortly before the incident. A man and a woman fled the scene and, according to the force’s latest statement, remain outstanding.

The officer is being treated in hospital for a gunshot wound to his foot.
Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas described the incident as “a shocking incident and a sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers as they work to protect and serve the public”.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident 106 of 18 October 2026.
