Live updates: M1 closed both ways in Nottinghamshire – crane fire

The M1 in South Yorkshire is closed in both directions between J30 Sheffield and J31 Worksop due to a crane which has caught fire.


Saturday 11 March – National Highways 6:29 am

Lane 1 (of 4) will remain closed throughout the day on the #M1 northbound between J30 #Sheffield & J31 #Worksop

Emergency resurfacing is required following an earlier 113 tonne crane fire.

Repairs will take place overnight to minimise disruption.

National Highways 5:45 pm

2 lanes (of 4) are closed on the M1 northbound between J30 (Sheffield) and J31 (Worksop) due to a large mobile crane which has caught fire.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are leading the response to this incident.

The vehicle has now been extinguished, however a complex recovery and clear-up operation now needs to take place.

Due to the size of the vehicle and the damage sustained to the road surface it is expected that the lanes will be closed for the remainder of the day.

National Highways 2:02 pm Friday 10 March

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service lead the response to this incident and are currently working to extinguish a crane that has caught fire on the northbound carriageway. The road has been closed in both directions as the smoke from the blaze is causing poor visibility on the southbound carriageway.

Traffic within the closure is advised to remain in their vehicles with the windows and door shut. Please await further instruction from police or National Highways traffic officers.

Diversion routes are in place via local routes.
