London Road and other Nottingham city roads close overnight for resurfacing works throughout August

Nottingham City Council will be carrying out overnight resurfacing works on key city centre routes this August.

These works will mean the roads are completely resurfaced with new tarmac, creating a new road surface that is expected to last for around 25 years.

This project is funded by Transforming Cities via the City Centre Cycle Routes project, following earlier works to add cycle lanes to these areas.

To keep disruption to a minimum, works are taking place:

  • Overnight between 8 pm – 5 am
  • On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, with no work on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights
  • During August when traffic is normally lighter.

Councillor Angela Kandola, Portfolio Holder for Highways, Transport and Planning said:

“I’m grateful to our Highways Team for planning these works to minimise disruption by ensuring the work will take place overnight when traffic flows are lowest. We would advise drivers to plan and allow extra time their journeys.

“While these works may cause some short-term disruption, the improvements will make journeys into and out of Nottingham safer for decades to come.”

Works will take place in three phases:

Phase 1 – London Road (Between Station Street and BBC Island) – Nights of Monday 31st – Thursday 3rd August (4 nights)

  • Movement toward the city (northbound) is maintained on one lane.
