Man arrested after breaching order banning him from ASDA Hyson Green

A man was arrested after being spotted outside an ASDA supermarket that he was banned from.

James Livingstone was given a criminal behaviour order (CBO) in November 2023 which prohibited him from entering Asda Hyson Green and the surrounding area.

Magistrates issued the order after he repeatedly refused to move on when asked by staff, who had received complaints about his persistent begging at the store’s entrance.

Security guards spotted him outside the store at around 3.45pm on Tuesday (27 August).

Two neighbourhood police officers attended and detained Livingstone.

The 40-year-old, from Radford, was taken into custody and charged with breaching his CBO.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (28 August) and was granted bail ahead of his next hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on 25 September.

Inspector Liz Gaskin, who leads the City Central neighbourhood policing team, said:

“By his own admission, Livingstone is a class A drug user and persistently begs as a way to fund his drug habit.

“Sadly he has refused to engage with support organisations that would be able to offer the help he needs.

“Therefore, enforcement is the only solution available to us as we do everything possible to address people’s concerns around antisocial behaviour in Hyson Green.

“We will continue work hard alongside our partners and local businesses to target those who are a persistent nuisance to shop staff and the public.”
